So Hum – A Mantra of Being

So Hum, it is the whisper of our breath. As we inhale, a gentle “so” escapes our lips, as we feel the expansiveness of our bodies. On our exhale, “hum” is softly released as our body compresses, journeying deeper within ourselves. Literally translated, So Hum means “I am that” or “I am that I am”. The “that” it is referring to is the one breathing us all; the source energy that is all-encompassing of everything and is beyond labels. By identifying with that, we go from a place of doing and struggle to a state of being and resting. By chanting So Hum, we are saying “I am one with that… the power of the cosmos manifesting in beautiful, intelligent form.”
