Self portrait inspired by Durga

This piece was inspired by the Hindu goddess Durga who is often depicted sitting on top of a tiger or with a lion.   Before putting brush to canvas I did ritual work specific to the goddess and set the tone with music, mantra & incense.   Although I had no specific idea of what the end result would be I did not expect it to become something of a self-portrait.  The images came out of the chaos of colors starting with the eyes.  When I look into her eyes I see myself and the eyes of the lion, my sweet dog Buster Brown. This was the first painting of mine that I fell in love with.  The piece itself is 20″ x 20″ acrylic on canvas.
